Without Supervision Trampolines Lead To Injuries

Common Trampoline Injuries & How To Prevent Them

Can you get injured on a trampoline? Yes. Can you suffer an injury if you ride a bike, swim in a pool or skateboard? Yes. How can you stay safe, no matter what you do? By having rules in place and supervising the activities. Without supervision trampolines lead to injuries — just as unsupervised swimming or bike riding or skateboarding can.

Regardless of what activity you undertake you could get injured. That’s the truth of life. You could cross the street, walk up a flight of stairs or even get up off the couch and injure yourself. When you weigh the risks against the many, many benefits of jumping on a trampoline, you will see the exercise and benefits far outweigh risks.

That being said, if you own a trampoline, here are safety measures that should be in place:

  • Adult supervision is needed
  • Only one person at a time should be jumping
  • The springs should be covered
  • Use safety mats to cover the springs and the space between the edge of the trampoline and the frame
  • Use a safety net
  • Make certain the trampoline, if it’s an above ground, is on level ground
  • Check for overhead dangers — tree limbs, the house
  • Never allow somersaults or backflips

There was a study conducted that showed children are more likely to suffer an injury. The main reason for that is that children are more likely to do “daredevil” activities. They are also more likely to disobey the rules of “only one person jumping at a time.” Children are also prone to wanting to jump from the trampoline to the ground and that can cause a serious injury because they are launching themselves high into the air before hitting the ground.
