As of this article writing, there are many storms brewing across the United States. In New York, for example, there are gale force winds predicted and gusts of wind up to 70mph predicted. If you have an above ground trampoline this could wreak havoc on your trampoline and even lead to property damage -- yours or a neighbors! We have put together some pre-storm trampoline care tips.
When you know there is a storm coming you can prepare for it. Not all storms give you advance warning though, but when you know your area of the country is prone to weather events, it makes sense to care for your inground or above ground trampoline as though a storm is imminent at any time... because it might be!
Pre-Storm Trampoline Care
Batten down the hatches! Depending on the type of storm that's being predicted you may need to, or want to, anchor the trampoline and lower the side safety enclosure. The amount of wind being predicted may lead to more drastic measures and you may want to lower the trampoline or move it to an enclosed space. If the wind gets under the trampoline it will lift it and send it sailing. An airborne trampoline can cause property damage and even has the potential to cause injury to humans or pets.
Cover the jump mat. Whether you have an above ground or an inground trampoline, make certain the jump mat is covered. Protect it from projectiles that may be taken aloft in the upcoming storm.
Cover the springs. This is especially important if you have an inground trampoline. If the springs are covered you will keep debris out of the jump pit and that will make it safer for jumping once the storm has passed. While it is unlikely that a branch or other projectile can get under the springs and jump mat and cause damage or injury -- you just, honestly, never know.
After the storm has passed, go and inspect the trampoline for any storm damage. Don't let anyone jump on the trampoline until it has been inspected for safety. An above ground trampoline -- if not properly taken care of before the storm, could have suffered leg damage and you don't want to have anyone jumping if that is the case.
